FAQ's

What is an Abscessed Tooth and How is it Treated?

An abscessed tooth is a painful infection of the nerve hidden deep inside a tooth. If you want to save the tooth, then you are going to have to undergo a root canal in order to remove the infected nerve. You can also have the tooth removed, which will take care of the infection completely. If your gums have swelled next to the tooth in question, and especially if it hurts every time you bite down, you may have an abscessed tooth. It is important that you come into Kenai Dental as soon as possible in order to prevent the infection from spreading to your head, neck and other areas where further complications can occur.

Wisdom Teeth Pain in the Ear and Jaw

If you are between the ages of 16 and 35 you may be experiencing symptoms from your wisdom teeth. Many patients don't have room in their mouths for their wisdom teeth to erupt fully. This either causes the wisdom teeth to partially erupt or the teeth could turn on their sides. As emergency dentists, we will come to your rescue immediately no matter what time of day or night. Whether it is 3 AM or 3 PM, we will rush to your side to repair that tooth or fix your lost filling. No matter what dental emergency you've experienced, one of our professional staff will always be waiting by to take your call.

Your Tooth Has Been Knocked Out

If you have a tooth that has recently been knocked out, you need to try to save the tooth. Find your tooth and rinse it off. If it is clean, you can put it in your mouth and hold it against the inside of your cheek. You can also put the tooth in a cup of milk until you can come in. Make sure you contact Kenai Dental and come into our office as soon as possible. The chances of saving your tooth will be the greatest when you take action right away. If your tooth is broken, try to save a piece of it and contact us immediately. Sometimes we can reattach the broken piece of tooth, but we may need to place a filling on the tooth to make it whole again. In the worst case scenario, we may have to remove the nerve from your broken or damaged tooth.

You Lost a Filling

If you lost a dental filling, contact our office and we will get you in as soon as we can. It is essential to replace your filling before any additional decay occurs. If you cannot make it into Kenai Dental, you can find over the counter dental cement products at most pharmacies that you can put into the hole. You can also use a piece of sugar free gum until you're able to come in.

Canker Sores

If you experience canker sores or recurring apthous ulcers, you should know that it is not a viral or bacterial infection despite what you may think. Canker sores are actually classified as an inflammatory condition. Usually, these lesions will go away on their own. However, you can try a number of over the counter remedies that will help with any discomfort you may feel. Rinsing with a solution of warm water mixed with a teaspoon of salt can help with the pain you're going through. There are also over the counter products such as Anbesol or Oragel that can provide temporary relief with canker sore pain. If the sore spot doesn't go away on its own within a few days or it gets worse, make an appointment with Kenai Dental as soon as you can.

Don't let your dental emergency go on any longer than it has to. Contact Kenai Dental at any time day or night to end your suffering. Remember, emergency dentists are supposed to help to alleviate your pain, not make it worse. Let us provide you with the pain-free emergency dental care you need so that your smile remains as nice as possible.
